General Maintenance Technician - Plumbing/Electrical/HVAC

Job Description
LOCATION:  McDuffie County School System
 
JOB GOALS: 
  • Performs a variety of plumbing tasks ranging from fixing leaks to installing pipes and HVAC systems 
  • Performs journey-level work in the design, installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of electrical apparatuses, equipment, and systems 
  • Performs a variety of standard to moderately complex technical tasks related to installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, cooling, ventilation and relayed systems

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Completion of a private, military or technical school maintenance apprenticeship program is preferred 
  • At least two years of experience performing HVAC/electrical/plumbing work in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting 
  • Valid, state-issued driver’s license 
  • Good driving record free of violations which would prohibit the applicant from operating a school district vehicle; eligibility of such driving privileges much be continuously maintained while employed by McDuffie County Schools 
  • Electrician licenses preferred 
  • HVAC/HVAC-R certification preferred
 
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Cut, assemble and install pipes and tubes with attention to existing infrastructure (e.g. electrical wiring) 
  • Install and maintain water supply systems 
  • Locate and repair issues with water supply lines (e.g. leaks) 
  • Repair or replace broken drainage lines, clogged drains, faucets, etc. 
  • Repair domestic appliances (e.g. washing machines) and fixtures (e.g. sinks) 
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical distribution systems including electric motors, electric controls, fire alarms, and clock systems 
  • Ensure campus fire alarms and emergency electrical systems are operational and perform certification testing on alarm systems 
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair new equipment and systems, including all campus lights and programmable lighting controls 
  • Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence to National Electrical Code Requirements and reports back to director 
  • Assist in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction 
  • Investigate problems and perform repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment in heating, cooling and ventilation systems 
  • Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in heating and cooling systems 
  • Monitor and inspect heating and cooling systems to ensure continued proper operation 
  • Install humidifiers into system, connect water and drain pipes, and perform any repairs as needed 
  • Determine the amount of airflow required to keep carbon dioxide at a safe level 
  • Locate, pick up, and deliver parts required for departmental needs 
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as but not limited to, lifting equipment up to 80 lbs. unassisted, bending, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and walking 
  • Must be able to safely use manual and power equipment 
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to various environmental elements, such as but not limited to, outside, inside, above ground, and below ground
